I stopped by the Historic Properties today to visit Aitken’s Pewter and realized that I was lucky it was still there!

The Historic Properties usually house many local artisans but, lately, many of these merchants have been closing their doors. I found out that this was happening at Christmastime when I stopped by another Historic Properties favourite, Lady Luck Boutique, and was told they would be closing soon because they had been seeing less and less business outside of tourist season. I was told that many other shops in the Historic Properties such as Argyle Fine Art, Handsmiths and the Harbour Swan were having the same problem and would be closing as well.

Luckily, Argyle Fine Art just moved to Barrington Street and Lady Luck still has a boutique in the Hydrostone Market and a booth at the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market. It was still sad to see so many empty stores, though.
