Hi there and welcome to the Anti-Minutes! A creative outlet to counter my work day.

I wanted to start a blog for awhile but I lacked a starting point – my ideas were all over the place! Finally, I decided to start my blog and 2011 by attempting a 365 Photo Project. I will take one new photo. Every day. For a year…

And here is why:

This will be a challenge for me. I tend to not follow through on hobbies that I start – clarinet lessons that lasted 2 months, guitar lessons that lasted a slightly longer 3 months, an orange belt in Tae Kwon Doe, fimo clay that has remained in the package for 8 years…you get the idea! I’m a bit of a ‘jack of all trades, master of none’. I tend to dabble in most of my hobbies. This is a project that I WILL finish.

I often hurry through life;  thinking more about other things than my immediate surroundings. I think this project will help me ‘stop and smell the roses’.  How often do we see something interesting or beautiful in the run of a day that we don’t even remember by that evening? I hope to capture some of these moments over the next year and maybe see the world a little differently – I’ll really have no choice once I start amassing photos! I plan on varying the themes as much as possible.

Sometimes I think that in this ‘digital age’ information is so accessible and constant that we take it for granted. I can’t remember the last time I had a batch of photos printed since moving from film to digital even though I’m taking more photos. While this blog is obviously digital, I plan to print the photos at the end of my project and I’m really excited to have a photographic memento for every day of 2011 (both good and bad!)

Finally, I want to take better photos! I bought a Canon PowerShot S90 last year and it’s a great little camera. It’s a point and shoot so I haven’t had to deal with the learning curve of an SLR BUT it’s a great learning camera as it has many of the same settings as an SLR. I look forward to using the S90 to it’s full potential. It’s also teeny which is perfect for this project since I will be taking it EVERYWHERE!

Please follow along with my progress! I’m no Bill Wadman but I’ll try to keep it interesting.

  2. Hurrah! I wrestle with my own dreadfully short attention span on a daily basis so I give you a hearty cheer and wish you well in completing your project.
